The Bangladesh Football Federation suffered a big blow when Malaysia decided to send their Under-23 team for the upcoming Bangabandhu Gold Cup, scheduled to start on January 29. Earlier, Bahrain and Singapore decided to send their Under-23 teams instead of the national team. The Football Association of Malaysia conveyed the message to the Bangladesh Football Federation on Monday saying that they want to send the Olympic team as the Cup will be a great benefit for them in preparation for Olympic qualifiers.
BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag claimed that the BFF are still trying to convince their Malaysian counterparts for sending the national team.
Malaysia are scheduled to play against hosts Bangladesh in the opening match of the six-nation tournament in Sylhet on January 29.
