The PSG player wasn’t on the final list that was released on Friday. The 30 contenders for the 2022 Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded on October 17, 2022 in Paris, have been announced by France Football magazine, but Lionel Messi, the star player for PSG, is surprisingly not one of them.
Since Messi currently holds the honor, he will not be considered for the award, which will be presented prior to the commencement of the World Cup in Qatar. Messi has won the Ballon d’Or seven times since 2005 and hasn’t been left off of a shortlist for the honor during that span.
Along with Messi, his PSG teammate and another former Barcelona star, Neymar, also does not make the list. While Messi is excluded, the Argentine’s former La Liga rival Cristiano Ronaldo did make the list.
