Speakers at a workshop on Saturday said the migration cost would be reduced by 50 per cent if middlemen are removed from the process.
The government should formulate strict law to stop the activities of the middlemen during the recruitment process, they said. BRAC Safe Migration Facilitation Centre organised the workshop titled ‘Extension of labour market for migrant worker in abroad and decentralisation of services’ at the city’s BRAC Inn Centre.
Kazi Abul Kalam, deputy secretary of expatriate welfare ministry, Aminul Islam of BRAC and Golam Mostafa, former president of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies made three presentations at the workshop.
Hasan Imam of BRAC, representatives for recruiting agencies and migrant labourers spoke at the workshop with the director of the bureau of manpower, employment and training, Nurul Islam, in the chair.
They said decentralisation of the government offices and recruiting agencies is inevitable to resist the middlemen.
The government should bargain with the developed countries for recruiting Bangladeshi labourer as the country is affected by them.
