The Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday gave national football team’s assistant coach Gonzalo Sanchez Moreno the charge of Bangladesh Under-23 team for the forthcoming Bangabandhu Gold Cup and SA Games. The decision came a day after the BFF had decided to field the Under-23 team for the January 8-18 Bangabandhu Gold Cup alongside the national team. The gold cup is expected to give the team an ideal preparation for the SA Games, scheduled in India from February 6-16 next year.
Moreno, who played for Barcelona youth team, was initially appointed as the development coach for six months in the middle of August.
But the 43-year-old Spaniard has now been given the bigger responsibility as BFF was struggling to find suitable local coaches for age-group teams.
The BFF on Sunday announced a 41-member preliminary Under-23 squad for the Bangabandhu Gold Cup and SA Games.
Moreno will conduct a three-day trial with the players at the Kamalapur stadium starting from today to select his final squad.
Most of the players of the preliminary squad have the experience to playing in the professional football league.
