Bangladesh national football team coach Gonzalo Sanchez Moreno was not happy with the present situation of the team as he is yet to get his full squad in training for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Jordan. The Spaniard observed his side for the first time in a warm-up match against Abahani Limited on Thursday when they were held to a goalless draw at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The depleted national team, however, dominated the match from the beginning but struggled to score.
‘The players were not up to the mark today [Thursday],’ said Moreno, who also expressed his concern over a series of injuries.
‘Four players —Nasirul Islam, Rezaul Karim, Shakhwat Hossain Rony and Atiqur Rahman Fahad — are injured at the moment, which is a big concern for me.
‘We need all players because we have to play all together against Jordan.’
Meanwhile, Moreno admitted that he had nothing to do but release some of his players to play an unauthorised tournament in Magura.
Some of the Moreno’s 24-member squad played a match for Dhaka Abahani and Mohammedan Sporting Club in a district-based tournament last week and will also play the final match on March 14.
‘I work for the BFF and they asked me to release them’, said a dejected Moreno.
‘Rupu [team manager Sattyajit Dus] requested me for the players and BFF president also asked me to release them.
‘I just only hope that no injuries happen to the players,’ said the coach.
