Mohammedan Sporting Club played out a goalless draw with Brothers Union to move up to third position of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday. With the stalemate, the traditional Black and white outfits have now earned 27 points from 14 matches, six points behind league leaders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club while Brothers remained in fifth position with 25 points from same number of outings.
Mohammedan, who finished the first phase in second place, failed to take the revenge of their first-leg 0-1 defeat to Bothers.
After a barren first half, Brothers keeper Biplob Bhattacharya made a double save in the 73rd minute to keep the score line goalless.
After failing to grip an Arup Baidya’s cross, Biplob blocked Mohammedan’s Guinean forward Ismael Bangoura’s shot and Jewel Rana fired a shot on the rebound from the box but Biplob was there to punch the ball away.
Brothers’ right winger Shariful Islam wasted a great chance three minutes later when he took too much time for a shot after getting the keeper alone in front and Mohammedan’s Nigerian defender Eleta Benjamin made a great tackle to clear the ball.
Mohammedan’s best opportunity came in the last minute of the stipulated time when winger Jewel Rana shot the ball wide of the post despite having an open net.
