Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited confirmed their participation in the third edition of the Super Cup through a confirmation letter sent to the
Bangladesh Football Federation on Saturday.
Later, Mohammedan officials also verified the matter to the reporters.
Motijheel-based Mohammedan initially refused to take part in the money-spinning tournament due to the unavailability of players but in fear of criticism they agreed to play in the Super Cup, told Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, member in charge of administration of Mohammedan.
The BFF earlier announced on Thursday that they will organise the Super Cup from June 14 to 25 after a meeting with the club officials. However, Mohammedan, the champions of the inaugural edition in 2009 told that they might not participate in the tournament which raised criticisms in and outside the club.
The club management then sat with the football team management including the coaches and managers to establish the possibilities of assembling players, who were released from the camp after the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League.
‘We decided to partake in the Super Cup in order to avoid criticism of the media and fans and also for the greater interest of football,’ said Lokman.
Meanwhile, the top teams will start their preparations for the Super Cup from this week. Defending champions Abahani Limited will start training from Wednesday under Amalesh Sen, the assistant coach. Mohammedan will also begin their preparation from the same day.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club put the charge of the first team to their academy coach Omar Casias due to the absence of head coach Josef Afusi. The Gambian coach will start training from Monday.
Treble winning Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra coach Maruful Haque has already called up his players for training ahead of the Super Cup next month.
