Mohammedan Sporting Club expect a better performance this time as the Dhaka giants on Thursday registered 24 players for the upcoming football season, including 10 new names from other Bangladesh Premier League clubs.
The Motijheel-based club retained their last-season skipper Motiur Rahman Munna who believes that the new players they recruited this season have mended the few weaknesses they had in their side last term and thus they are expecting a better performance this year.
‘We retained all of our last season’s performers while
replaced the less successful ones with some new players. We are targeting the top two places this season,’ said Munna after the registration of players at the Bangladesh Football Federation.
The 10 new players include Mohammad Robin and Imtiaz Sultan Jitu from their arch-rivals Abahani Limited, apart from Muktijoddha Sangsad’s Maruf Ahmed and Mamun Khan.
The other new six players are Mintu Sheikh from Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Mesbabul Haque Manik of Sheikh Russell KC, Mamun Miah, Sayeedul Haque Sayeed and Zahirul Islam from Farashganj Sporting Club, Iqbal Hossain from Feni Soccer Club and free player Ismail Hossain Johan.
Meanwhile, the club’s director Manjurul Alam informed that they will retain three of their last season’s foreigners – Augustine Chizoba, Francis Baybeck and Uche Damien who joined the club during the mid-season transfer last season to help Mohammedan finish third in the league despite a poor start.
