Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited got off to a winning start in the Grameenphone Super Cup when they edged past Team BJMC 1-0 in their tournament opener at the
Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
Midfielder Mobarak Hossain scored the all-important goal in the 25th minute from the penalty spot under the watchful eyes of national coach Lodewijk de Kruif.
The referee awarded the penalty to the Black-and-White outfit after Mobarak was brought down by BJMC defender Shakil inside the penalty area.
Mohammedan, who controlled the first half, could have doubled their lead in the 54th minute had BJMC defender Amit Khan Shuvro not blocked the shot of Wahed at the eleventh hour.
BJMC came close to an equaliser with a counter-attack in the 57th minute as Ali Akbar Kakon ran all the way down the leg side to pass the ball to Didarul Alam who kicked it over the bar.
BJMC made a few other quick moves but they never looked threatening for the popular Motijheel-based outfit who held their lead and finished the tie as the winning side.
