Muktijoddha Sangsad overcame the challenge of Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra once again, this time in the Bangladesh Premier Football League on Tuesday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The first meeting between the two sides came at the group stage of the season’s opening tournament, the Federation Cup, where Muktijoddha prevailed over the Blues and the Reds had the last laugh again on Tuesday, courtesy a 2-1 victory.
The Reds rose to fourth position in the standings with seven points from five matches while Sheikh Russell are second with nine points from the same number of matches. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club occupy top spot with 12 points from four matches.
National forward Enamul Haque opened the scoring for Muktijoddha in the 22nd minute before Nigerian forward Nkwocha Kingsley doubled the lead in the 50th minute.
Youness Roux reduced the margin for Sheikh Russell in the 73rd minute although it proved to be nothing but a consolation goal.
Muktijoddha manager Shafiqul Islam Manik expressed his happiness with the win.
‘We have fared well in the previous games as well. We could have scored more goals but then again I am satisfied with the three points,’ said an elated Manik.
