Nigerian forward Ahmed Kolo Musa slammed a brilliant hat-trick as Muktijoddha Sangshad Krira Chakra blew the Independence Cup Group A semi-final race wide open with a 3-0 win over Uttar Baridhara on Friday. With the win, Muktijoddha are now sharing the top spot of Group A with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Chittagong Abahani with nine points from four matches while Baridhara completed their campaign without a single point from their five matches.
Musa, who scored three goals in his last two matches against Brothers Union and Mohammedan Sporting Club, is now the top scorer of the tournament with six goals.
Muktijoddha took the lead in the 17th minute when Musa headed home following a Towhidul Alam cross from the right flank.
The Nigerian extended his team’s lead in the 32nd minute by dinking the ball over an advancing Baridhara keeper Razib.
Musa completed his first and third treble of the tournament in the 55th minute with a fine tap-in from a handshaking distance.
Towhidul Alam’s initial attempt was punched away by Baridhara keeper Razib but it fell into the feet of Musa, who completed the rout.
Meanwhile, the other match of the day between Arambagh Krira Sangha and Rahmatganj MFS ended in a goalless draw at the same venue.
With the draw, Rahmatganj have earned four points while Arambagh have three after playing four games each in Group B. Sheikh Russell KC have already qualified for the semi-final from this group.
