The form of Mohammedan skipper Mushfiqur Rahim gives Gazi Group a big a headache as they lock-horn in the Dhaka Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today.
With two wins from first three matches, it has become crucial for both Mohammedan and Gazi Group, who will look to cement their position in what has been perceived as an open league.
Mushfiq led Mohammedan from the front with 227 runs in their first three matches when he scored a century and two fifties, which came after a stuttering campaign in the ICC World Twenty20.
In the other matches, three Kalabagan-based teams, Kalabagan Cricket Academy, Kalabagan Krira Chakra and Cricket Coaching School, will seek their first win of the league.
The Academy side faces the toughest challenge as they take on Legends of Rupganj at the BKSP while Kalabagan Krira Chakra and Cricket Coaching School will face each other at Fatullah.
Unlike these two matches, the focus will be on the match between Mohammedan and Gazi Group, the two mid-table teams, which will rely on their stars to champion their cause.
Gazi’s top-order batsmen Anamul Haque, Shamsur Rahman and youngster Mehedi Hassan performed reasonably well while Sri Lankan player Upal Tharanga also excelled for Mohammedan alongside Mushfiq.
‘Both Mushfiq and Tharanga are in nice form. They can change the course of the game and tomorrow [Friday] our main target will be to get them out cheaply’, said Gazi opener Shamsur ahead of the match.
Gazi coach Salahuddin added that the form of his spinners was the main concern for his team.
‘Our spinners failed to perform so far in the league. If they can do well, I think it is possible for us to qualify for the Super League’, said Salahuddin.
