The 114th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated in Manikganj. The district administration arranged the two-day programme at Tewta, the birth place of Ashalota Sen
Gupta Promila, wife of Nazrul.
ABM Anwarul Haque, local lawmaker, inaugurated the programme on Saturday. The dignitaries present addressed the works and life of Nazrul in their speeches. They acknowledged prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s initiative to renovate Tewta Jamindar bari, the memorial place of the poet and his wife Promila Devi.
Following the discussion, the artistes of Shilparath performed dance while local artistes rendered songs and recited poetry.
The district administration had also arranged a discussion session and a cultural function at officers’ club auditorium in Manikganj on Saturday. After the discussion, members of Manikganj Shilpakala Academy and Shishu Academy performed.
Genesis Theatre staged a play titled ‘Damal Chhele Nazrul’ written by Mamud Ulla and directed by Nur Hossain. Apu Foraji and Bithi Akter of the theatre troupe performed a dance number in duet.
