Nishchintapur Registered Non-Government Primary School of Sylhet division emerged as the champions of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup National Primary School Football Tournament overcoming Dhaka Division’s Isdair Govt Primary School 4-2 in penalty shootout at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Earlier, the stipulated 50-minute time ended in a 1-1 draw and the 20 minutes added-on time could not break the deadlock. The Sylhet divisional team’s Emdad put his side in front in the 35th minute but the tournament’s highest-scorer Selim struck the equaliser in stoppage time, his 34th goal of the competition.
Selim, however, missed his spot-kick in tie-breaker while his team-mate Sajal could only hit the woodwork as the Narayanganj team netted only two from their total four shots. On the other hand, Nishchintapur School converted all of their four spot kicks to confirm their final triumph.
Selim was adjudged as the player of the tournament later. President of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh Zillur Rahman witnessed the final as the chief guest and handed over the prizes to the winners.
