Among the eight invites, only Nepal and Kuwait have agreed to send their teams in September’s Bangabandhu Gold Cup, said an official of the Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday.
The BFF invited Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar, Thailand and Yemen with only Nepal making sure of their involvement in the tournament in the scheduled time.
BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Sohag said that Kuwait is willing to take part if the competition is deferred by a week.
It was learnt that BFF president Kazi Salahuddin, during his forthcoming visit to China for the Asian Youth Games starting on August 16, will try to convince the football officials of Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait to participate in the tournament.
Sohag also said they are working on the tournament’s rules and regulations, which they will submit to the Asian Football Confederation within a week for endorsement to hold the eight-team Gold Cup.
