Partex and Old DOHS kept their Super League hopes alive while Surjo Tarun retained their second place in the points table after winning their respective matches in the Dhaka Premier Cricket League on Monday.
Partex defeated all-losers City Club by seven wickets to move up to fourth in the points table, leapfrogging giants Mohammedan Sporting Club, with 12 points from 10 matches. Partex now share the position jointly with Gazi Tanks.
DOHS ended their five-match losing streak by beating Victoria by 33 runs that lifted them to the seventh place with 10 points. Abahani, Biman and Surjo Tarun, who outclassed Young Pegasus by four wickets on Monday, are already assured of a place in the Super League.
But the remaining three slots will be decided in the final round of the first phase from March 17 to 19. Mohammedan will face Gazi Tanks on March 17, a day before Partex meet Surjo Tarun. In the last game of the first phase, DOHS will play against CCS.
Surjo Tarun v Young Pegasus
Surjo Tarun off-spinner Saqlain Sajib claimed five wickets for 37 runs to help his team restrict Pegasus to 153 runs before they raced to 157-6 in 46.2 overs on a placid pitch at the BKSP.
National opener Junaed Siddique slammed his third half-century of the league, 57 off 94 balls with five fours and two sixes. Junaed put on 56 runs with Hannan Sarkar (25) for the second wicket.
Partex v City Club
Opting to bat first, City Club were all out for 162 runs in 48 overs with the highest 21 runs coming from the bat of Maishequr Rahim. Two players, Nadim Karamat and Sirajullah Khadem, were out for equal 20 runs while Rashedul Islam was also unbeaten on the same score.
Mohammad Azim grabbed three wickets for 44 runs for Partex, who reached 164-3 in 36.3 overs. Tariq Ahmed was unbeaten on 62 while Ariful Islam was also out for the same score.
Old DOHS v Victoria
An unbeaten 77 by skipper Mehrab Hossain Jr enabled DOHS to amass 274 for six, but Victoria still managed to give them some scare thanks to an 112-run opening stand between Amit Majumder and Arman Hossain.
Amit and Arman both were run out in the space of three balls having made 66 and 41 runs respectively, though Victoria still had something to fight with as Akil Arshad and Mohammad Sharifullah put together 90 in the fifth-wicket stand.
After Akil and Sharifullah were dismissed for 42 and 52 runs respectively, the lower-order caved in and Victoria were eventually all out for 241 runs. Abul Hasan took three wickets for 34 runs.
