A Latif Charitable School clinched the Dhaka Metropolitan School Football Championship title with a 3-1 penalty shootout win over Dhaka Residential Model in the final at the Kamalapur stadium on Wednesday.
The 60-minute regulation time ended goalless.
Latif School, the only unbeaten side in the competition, dominated their opponents throughout the match and created many scoring opportunities only for their strikers to make some unpardonable mistakes.
They earned a total of seven corner-kicks which is the evidence of their frequent attacks whereas Dhaka Residential Model School, who concentrated more on defending, got none.
Anwar, Rajib and Taufiq converted the spot-kicks for A Latif Charitable School while Residential School’s Anik and Jalal squandered the first two attempts and Himel netted the third.
A Latif School boys burst into joy when their opponent footballer Raj hoisted the fourth shot over the post.
A Latif Charitable School striker Masum and Raisul Islam were awarded Tk 50,000 each as the highest scorer and the player of the tournament respectively.
The minister for education, Nurul Islam Nahid, handed over the prizes among the winners as chief guest. BFF president Kazi Salahuddin and school football committee’s chairman Mahfuzur Rahman were also present.
