Bollywood mega star Shah Rukh Khan on Friday enthralled the Dhaka crowd at the Army Stadium with wonderful performances with the hit numbers of Hindi playbacks in his first ever visit to Bangladesh.
His ability to create humour through improvisation and gestures made the huge budget concert a show to be remembered by over 25,000 viewers, who initially showed anger at the mismanagement of the concert organisers.
But King Khan did not campaign for the inclusion of the world’s largest mangrove forest, the Sunderbans, as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, though earlier the organisers and Bangladesh Tourism Board in a joint press conference claimed that Shah Rukh Khan will raise his voice for vote for the Sundarbans.
The concert, ‘King Khan Live in Dhaka’, reached the peak when the celebrity actor appeared onstage at about 9 pm in a dramatic way with sudden seesaw of lights and came up with many hit numbers including ‘Darde disco’ ‘Naina’ ‘Meri Jan’ ‘Om Shanti Om’ and others.
The Bollywood Badshah so far appeared in some 78 movies during his 19 years of carrier in the film industry. Many of these films were commercially successful and Shah Rukh won 13 Filmfare Awards, seven of which are in the Best Actor category.
In 2005, the Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri for his contributions towards Indian Cinema.
Earlier, during the show, another Bollywood heart-throb Rani Mukherjee delighted the crowd with her enthralling solo and duet performance. Rani in her solo performance stepped with Hindi playbacks ‘Sathiya’, ‘Humtum’ and ‘Shaba Shaba’.
Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerjee who are considered one of the successful duos and their movies together as the lead pair had hit box offices including ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, and ‘Khabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ and ‘Chalte Chalte’ simply rocked the screen. And during the show, the couple enthralled Dhaka audience with duet performance of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mithwa and stanzas from various songs.
Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal performed with Apnito Jaise Jaise and Janab Ali and actress Isha Koppikar also performed Sham Hai, Aaj Ki Rani and others.
Shefali Zariwala, famous item girl of Bollywood who is widely known for her controversial appearance in the music video Kaanta Laga stepped with, Kaanta Laga and current hit song Munni Badnam Hui and others.
Sizzling Bollywood actress Isha Koppikar performed with some of hit numbers including Khallas.
Bollywood singer Neeraj Shridhar, leader of the band Bombay Vikings, rendered some of his top songs including, stanzas of Oh Cholli, Race and Aaho Aaho and others.
However, scheduled Bangladeshi stars—Kumar Biswajit and Shakib Khan—did not appear onstage. In a press release, singer Kumar Biswajit explained his reason for not performing and blamed the organisers for not cooperating with him with required technical support.
