Singer Akbar Ali died while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the capital on Sunday. He was 54.
He is survived by his widow and daughter.
The singer’s widow Kaniz Fatima told New Age that Akbar Ali died at around 3:00pm at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Sunday.
Akbar Ali came into the limelight in 2003 after performing at a popular programme named Ityadi, where he rendered the song titled Ekdin Pakhi Ure Jabe Je Akashe. He also earned huge acclaim singing the song titled Tomar Haat Pakhar Batase.
He was suffering from diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease and other complications since 2017. Following which, prime minister Sheikh Hasina provided financial assistance of Tk 22 lakh for his treatment.
Akbar’s right leg was amputated in October. After his physical condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Birdem General Hospital on November 5. He was put on life support at the hospital on November 9.
Later, he was shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
He was buried in Jashore after Isha prayers.
