Elton John will perform at a unique event called “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme” at the White House, Friday (Sept. 23) . The event is a joint effort between A&E Networks and The History Channel.
The concert and related event, which will feature John performing for 2,000 invited guests on the South Lawn of the White House, are intended to “celebrate the unifying and healing power of music, laud the life and work of Sir Elton John, and recognize the daily history-makers in the audience, including teachers, nurses, frontline workers, mental health activists, students, LGBTQ+ champions, and more,” according to CNN, citing a White House press release.
John and his team “expressed a desire on his behalf in playing again at the White House,” a White House representative was quoted by the network as saying. The musician has received invitations to events at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue before. The singer of “Bennie and the Jets” received permission from President Bill Clinton to perform at a dinner for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in 1998.
President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden are also expected to attend and speak in the evening on Friday, though it is yet unknown what they will be discussing as of this writing.
It’s convenient for the 75-year-old to stop at the White House. John will be performing at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 24th as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. Through the remainder of 2022, the North American leg of the tour will include stops in Houston, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Nashville and other cities.
