Reigning Bangladesh Premier League champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on Monday sacked their head coach Shafiqul Islam Manik to facilitate the reappointment of Nigerian coach Joseph Afusi.
Afusi left the club after helping Jamal to win last season’s Premier League title and Bhutan’s Kings Cup as well as guided the Dhanmondi-based outfit to become runners-up in IFA Shield in Kolkata.
With Afusi gone, Manik was appointed as the coach of Jamal ahead of their AFC Cup campaign. Under the guidance of Manik, Jamal managed only one point from their six AFC Cup matches and were eliminated from the knockout stages of the Independence and Federation Cup.
The decision came as a shock and surprise to Manik, who conducted a training and gym on Monday morning before being sacked in the afternoon.
