Bangladesh Railway on Saturday pressed into service three DEMU railcars in Chittagong, two of them for the commuters in the port city. The third DEMU railcar would shuttle between the port city and Laksham, railway officials said.
Bangladesh Railway is set to open its Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit railcar service on two routes in Chittagong from May 25, said officials. It also has a plan to open DEMU railcar service between Chittagong University and the port city on the same day, they said.
The Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit railcar commuter service between Dhaka and Narayanganj has not yet started in full swing. Although the Bangladesh Railway had planned to run the new train for 16 trips, up and down, at present it runs only six trips.

The Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit locomotives (trains) service on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route will be launched today. Though the Bangladesh railway was scheduled to launch two sets of these metre-gauge trains separately, it is going to launch a ‘rake’ or combined two-set DEMU trains.
