Talented young pace bowler Taskin Ahmed received an injury scare ahead of the five-match one-day international series against Zimbabwe after he sustained a strain on his rib cage during a game at the Acharya Memorial Challenger Trophy in Kolktata.
Taskin was asked to take rest for three weeks to recover from the injury he sustained during Bangladesh Cricket Board XI’s 74-run win over Bengal XI on Thursday.
The BCB XI returned home on Friday as they failed to reach the final having lost their opening two matches against Mumbai and Karnataka respectively.
Taskin was removed from bowling after his opening spell of four overs as it appeared that the injury might have serious impact on his immediate future.
Taskin, however, was hopeful of playing the ODI series, which will start exactly in three weeks time on November 21.
‘I think it is a minor strain and hopefully will be able to recover in due time before the ODI series,’ Taskin told New Age on Friday. ‘I am not sure about its gravity, which can only be known after my MRI.’
Chief selector Faruk Ahmed admitted that Taskin’s injury was a matter of concern. ‘Surely it is a concern, thought it is too early to rule him out,’ said Faruk. ‘We will announce the ODI team on November 15 or 16. Hopefully, by that time we will get a clear picture of the injury’, said Faruk.
