The film is well on track to emerge as one of the top grossers of all time in Indian cinema.
Bollywood comedy Tees Maar Khan, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, has grossed over 140 million rupees (Dh11.4 million) on its release day, making it one of the biggest openings in India, according to its producers.
The Farah Khan directed film, which released in the UAE on Thursday, has also been hugely successful in the overseas market, with Gulf, US and UK markets grossing a total of 50 million rupees on opening day, said UTV Motion Pictures.
“Going by the audience reactions both in India and overseas, we expect these figures to grow steadily in the coming weeks,” said Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO.
The film is well on track to emerge as one of the top opening weeks of all time in Indian cinema, added Kapur.
Other record-breaking openings include the Salman Khan starrer Dabangg and the Aamir Khan film 3 Idiots.
Tees Maar Khan is now the biggest opener ever for producer UTV, third-time director Khan and actor Kumar.
