Thai club hold Jamal
Defending Bangladesh champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club played out a goalless draw with Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC in their second group A match of the Bhutan’ King’s Cup on Sunday. Jamal dominated the match at the Chenglimithang Stadium in Thimphu, but they had to be satisfied with a single point as their forwards squandered numerous scoring chances.Jamal put pressure on Thai opponents’ defence from the beginning and came close to scoring at least twice at the start but Nakhon goalkeeper denied them on both occasions.
In the 15th minute, Jamal’s Gambian midfielder Landing Darboe saw his 25-yard free-kick just went wide.
Nakhon, popularly called as The Swat Cats, found their rhythm after 30 minutes and created some good chances but they had to return empty handed.
In the second half, Jamal intensified pressure and created some real chances in vain as Nasiruddin Chowdhury saw his header off a Sohel Rana’s corner went inches away in the hour mark.
Jamal raised their tally to four points from their two matches thanks to this draw and now await their third group match against Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan FC on November 27 to know their fate.
Nakhon also earned the same points from same number of matches while Mohun Bagan started their campaign with a 3-3 draw with Druk United, leaving the group wide open.
