Defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club continued their brilliant form in the Bangladesh Premier League as they claimed a thumping 4-0 win over Chittagong Abahani at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday. Jamal’s two foreign forwards Haitian Wedson Anselme and Nigerian Emeka Darlington carried their fine form to score a brace each. This was their fourth win in as many games and yet to concede a goal.
The first-half ended goalless as Jamal wasted at least four scoring chances to take the lead but the Dhanmondi based outfit continued pressure on the Chittagong side right from the start of the second-half and got the result.
Jamal’s Gambian midfielder Landing Darboe, who was one of the main architects of the win, saw his free-kick from 25 yards out hit the side post in the 28th minute.
Just five minutes after the resumption, the deadlock was finally broken as Haitian Wedson send the ball home past Chittagong Abahani keeper Mohammed Ershad after Emeka chested down a Landing cross for the Haitian.
Wedson failed to add the second to his tally in the 63rd minute when Mamunul Islam provided a through pass to him. He ran round the onrushing keeper but failed to send the ball into an empty net.
Wedson, however, rectified his mistake in the 73rd minute by scoring his second of the day. Linkon’s cross found him unmarked inside the box and he chested down the ball before putting it into the back of the net.
Nigerian forward Emeka added two more goals in as many minutes and now sharing the top spot of the scorers list along with team-mate Wedson and Abahani’s Hungarian Szabolcs Csorba with four goals apiece.
Landing again helped his team-mate to find the back of the net as the Gambian provided a cutback to Emeka, who coolly sent the ball home from goal mouth melee in the 76th minute to make it 3-0.
Just two minutes later, Emeka finished off the game with angular shot into the far post from the edge of the box.
The victory kept Jamal on top of the points table with 12 points from four matches while Chittagong Abahani are yet to open their account from the same number of outings.
