The Rapid Action Battalion arrested two suspected drug traders at a flat in the city’s Shyamoli area early Tuesday and seized 2,250 Yaba tablets from their possession.
The battalion said that a RAB-3 team raided the flat on Shyamoli Ring Road upon information about trading of the contraband drugs at about 1:30am and arrested Shukkur Ali, 18 and Farid Alam, 37, of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.
Ringleader Mohammad Rafiq had rented the flat at Ring Road and was doing the drug business for a long time, the battalion said, adding that the arrested were being used to run the business.
The illegal drug was smuggled into the country from Myanmar through Teknaf border, the battalion claimed.
Shukkur and Farid were handed over to the Adabar police while Rafiq is on the run.
Also, a RAB-4 team picked up a young man Mohammad Sajib from Shah Ali police station area at about 1:00pm on Tuesday and seized two pistols with three bullets, a magazine and 35 bottles of contraband Phensidyl syrup from his possession.
The battalion said that Sajib was an associate of notorious criminal Shahadat and engaged in criminal activities like murder, robbery and extortion in the locality.
