The Bangladesh Under-16 national football team were knocked out of the second edition of the SAFF U-16 Championship after being trounced 5-1 by Nepal in the first semi-final at
the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Saturday.
Bangladesh could not put up any resistance against the young Gorkhas, who kept them under pressure throughout the match.
Nepal opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Bimal Gharti’s flick bounced back off the post and fell to Sujan Limbu, who made no mistake with the rebound.
BImal Magar doubled the lead in the 20th minute and Anjan Bista made it 3-0 just three minutes later.
Nepal went 4-0 up in the 56th minute when Bangladesh defender Atikuzamman headed the ball into his own net.
Sujan Lambu scored his second in the 59th minute, before Bangladesh striker Sifat scored a consolation goal for the underdogs in the 65th minute.
Bangladesh will next play the losers of today’s second semi-final between India and Afghanistan in the third place play-off on August 30.
