The Under-16 national football team failed to finish atop group B in the Under-16 SAFF Football Championship as they lost to India 2-0 on Thursday at the Army Ground in Kathmandu, Nepal.
With the defeat, Bangladesh find themselves facing hosts Nepal in the first semi-final on Saturday, while India meet Afghanistan in the second semi-final of the day.Bedashor Singh put India ahead in the 43rd minute from a free kick before Krishna Pandit doubled the lead two minutes before the final whistle.
The U-16 team’s coach Rene Koster was a little bit worried about their semi-final opponents, as he admitted Nepal are a tougher side than the other participants.
‘Nepal look stronger than the other teams, but this is football. Any semi-finalist can win the title,’ the Dutch coach said at the post-match press briefing.
