Eminent Nazrul singers Yasmin Mushtari and Yakub Ali Khan launched their solo albums featuring timeless Nazrul songs at a programme on Thursday at the Chhayanaut auditorium.
Veteran Nazrul exponent Professor Rafiqul Islam unveiled the covers of the albums ‘Mohua Boney’ and ‘Shuktara.’ Mohua Boney contains a total of 10 Nazrul songs by Yasmin Mushtari while the second one features 12 songs rendered by Yakub Ali Khan.
The albums, produced by Bengal Foundation, are part of Bengal’s venture of releasing a series of albums featuring Nazrul songs marking the 36th death anniversary of the National Poet.
The album launching programme was enriched with a musical function in which both the singers presented songs from the new albums.
Yakub Ali Khan’s presentation kicked off with the song ‘Amar bhubon.’ He presented a few songs back to back including ‘O basher bashi,’ ‘Tumi sita,’ ‘Bondhu tomar amar’ and others. His performance of the song ‘E kon maya badhley amay’ which belongs to thumri genre delighted the audience and they cheered the singer with repeated applauses. His last song of the night ‘Mor piya hobe’ was presented as a response to the requests from the audience.
Yasmin Mushtari was next on stage. Her presentation began with a devotional song ‘Rosh ghono shyam kalian sundor.’
Yasmin mesmerized the audience with the song ‘Bulbuli nirob nargis boney.’ She performed a number of songs from the album including ‘Tepantor er mathey bodhu hey’, ‘Sondha godhuli logoney ke,’ ‘Benuka o key bajay,’ ‘Piya gechhey Kobe pordesh,’ ‘Harano hiya er nikunjo pothey’ and many more.
A good number of audiences enjoyed the musical programme. Shamma Nazia, an audience told the New Age, ‘I came here with my mother since she loves Nazrul songs and both of us enjoyed the show thoroughly.’
