Caesarean births increase significantly in Bangladesh: BIDS

A study conducted by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) found that the overall prevalence of CS among women in Bangladesh was 3.99% in 2004 but increased to 33.22% in 2017 – 18, nearly eightfold.

Caesarean section (CS) delivery is massively booming in Bangladesh, said a study by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS).

The details were presented at a public research organization conference on Wednesday titled ‘Massive Boom of C-Section Delivery in Bangladesh: A Household Level Analysis (2004-2018)’. (28 September).

The oldest human fossils ever discovered on the European continent are 1.4-million-year-old facial bones, which could change the course of human prehistory, according to the researchers involved in the historic discovery.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Aurora Martin, the archaeologist and general coordinator of the Museum of Human Evolution in Burgos, said: “We do not yet know to which first human species the fragments found belonged”.

The bones, found at the end of June at the caves of the Sierra de Atapuerca excavation site near Burgos, constitute “a breakthrough that will help rewrite the history of human evolution,” she added.

The government is set to withdraw embargo on the visit of foreign tourists to Bangladesh as the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 on Monday recommended doing so if the tourists can show their ‘full vaccine certificates’ on arrival.

Civil aviation and tourism state minister Md Mahbub Ali said this at a press conference organised by the ministry at Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation in Agargaon of the capital ahead of the World Tourism Day today.
