The Bangladesh Cricket Board received at least a dozen bids for the new franchises of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament, said the officials.
The final day for submitting the expression of interest to own six new franchises was on Monday. The BPL governing council is expected to open the bids today and discuss their fate. However, it is still unclear exactly how many bids the BCB received from the potential franchisee.
BCB’s media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said they received 12 biddings, though sources close to the BPL governing council said the number of bidding is at least 13.
Jalal said among the bidders there are 10 new companies. Two companies, which owned franchises previously, also submitted their bids.
The new bidders include Beximco Group, Ha-meem Group, Summit Group, a private consortium called DBL, Envoy Group, Square Group, Asian group, Prime Bank.
The BCB had terminated the ownership rights of all the seven franchises for their inability to pay the dues that sources said amount to nearly Tk 69 crore.
Two time champions Dhaka Gladiators are banned from participating in any kind of cricketing activities for their match fixing involvement in the second edition of BPL.
