On January 14, 2023, more than 90 women will vie for the title of Miss Universe at the Ernest N Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
They will compete in various categories, including evening gown and swimwear. They will also take part in an in-depth interview session.
The organization said earlier this month that the pageant has been postponed due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
The revelation also indicates that there will probably be two Miss Universe pageants next year, with the second one being conducted later in the year to crown Miss Universe 2023
The last time two pageants were staged simultaneously was in 2021, when Miss Universe 2020 was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak and hosted in Hollywood, South Florida, in May. Andrea Meza, a contestant from Mexico, won and in December, in Israel, she crowned her successor, Miss Universe 2021 Sandhu.
The reigning Queen Harnaaz Sandhu of India is to crown her successor. “My time as Miss Universe has been an incredible experience and I am so grateful for all the opportunities I have received as a result of this platform,” she said in a press release.
“I’m very excited that I will be crowning the next titleholder in New Orleans and that she will kick off her reign in such an exciting and special city known for its resiliency, music, and grand celebrations.”
New Orleans, which is situated along the Mississippi River, is renowned for its history, musical customs, and celebrations, such as Mardi Gras. Formerly a French and Spanish colony, it is nicknamed The Big Easy, an ode to its laid-back culture, or NoLa, which stands for New Orleans, Louisiana.
‘The City of New Orleans and the Miss Universe Organisation share common values of celebrating inclusion, culture and the empowerment of women,’ said New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, the first female mayor in the city’s 300-year history.
The Miss Universe 2022 competition is the pageant’s 71st edition. Its 72nd edition, which will take place in 2023, will reportedly allow moms and wives to compete in the pageant as long as they’re aged between 18 and 28.
