The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Friday formed a four-member committee to investigate the alleged spot-fixing approach made to Bangladesh Premier League franchise Dhaka Gladiators captain Masrafee bin Murtaza. BCB senior vice-president Mahbub Anam will head the committee that also included BPL governing council chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain and secretary Sirajuddin Mohammed Alamgir, also chairman of the BCB disciplinary committee, and acting chief executive officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
Governing Council chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain in a statement said: ‘We have a zero tolerance policy towards match-fixing and that is why it is important for us to have a detailed inquiry into the matter.
‘We are also working closely on this issue with the ACSU [ICC Anti-Corruption Unit] officials present in Dhaka for the BPL.’
Mashrafee met ACSU representative Howard Beer and the BPL chairman earlier on Friday along with Dhaka Gladiators manager Shafiqul Haque Heera. The player’s statement was recorded by Beer.
Mashrafee reported a spot-fixing approach by a former national cricketer, who allegedly wanted a share of 15 to 20 per cent of his earnings should the player provide him certain information like which match he will play or which sunglass he will wear.
Mashrafee did not name the former player, though it was reported in a section of the media that former off-spinner Shariful Haq Plabon had made the approach.
Plabon, a member of Bangladesh’s 1994 ICC trophy squad, who was Masharfee’s team-mate at Bangladesh Biman, has denied the allegation.
