Holders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club thrashed hosts Chittagong Abahani 5-1 in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the MA Aziz Stadium on Friday.
In the other match of the day, Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society and Farashganj Sporting Club played out a 2-2 draw at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.With the win, Jamal strengthened their position in the top of the points table with 33 points from 14 matches while the port city club remained in 10th place with seven points from the same number of outings.
Yeamin Munna opened the floodgate for Jamal in the 9th minute while Emeka Darlington doubled the margin in the 17th minute. Wedson Anselme added the third and fourth in the 41st and 51st minute respectively.
Mohammad Hanif of Chittagong Abahani pulled one goal back for his team in the 89th minute.
Emeka Darlington completed the rout by scoring his team’s fifth goal in the stoppage time.
Meanwhile at the BNS, Farashganj took the lead in the 45th seconds of the match when defender Farhdauzzaman Babu curved a corner from the left hand flag and Akinyele Peter, the Nigerian forward headed the ball into the far post net.
The lead was extended to two in the 52nd minute when forward Pashbon Molla placed a low cut-back of Mohammad Yusuf past Rahmatganj keeper Al-Amin.
Rahmatganj reduced the margin in the 77th minute from an own goal of Nigerian defender David Udoh Brown, whose attempted headed clearance on a cross of Mannaf Rabbi landed into the middle of his own post.
But in the stoppage time substitute forward Mohammad Helal leveled the margin from a cross of Nurul Absar.
