Mohammedan Sporting Club were hot on the heels of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club when they came from behind to seal a crucial 2-1 win over Team BJMC in the Bangladesh Premier League on Saturday. With the win, the popular Black and White outfit came within a point of table toppers Sheikh Jamal with 26 points from 12 matches. BJMC slipped to eighth position with their previous earnings of nine points from same number of outings.
In-form winger Jewel Rana was the hero for Mohammedan, scoring not only the winner but also assisting the other after BJMC’s newly recruited Nigerian forward Eleta Kingsley gave his side the lead in the 59th minute.
Mohammedan, who won the corresponding first leg match 2-0, were dominated by BJMC till the 75 minutes.
Goalkeeper Ashraful Haque Rana deserved credit for keeping Mohammedan unscathed during the period when BJMC came close to scoring on several occasions.
BJMC initiated their first real attack in the 17th minute when their Nigerian captain Samson Iliasu saw his weak effort on a rebounder was tremendously blocked by Rana.
Rana rescued Mohammedan again in the 33rd minute when he dived to his left to deny Jakir Hossain Ziku’s close-range effort.
BJMC took the lead in the 59th minute from a counter attack as Kingsley received a brilliant through pass from Samson Iliasu from almost halfway line before slotting the ball into the far post.
Mohammedan leveled the margin in the 79th minute when Ismail Bangoura’s header on a Jewel Rana cross hit the side-post before bounced past the goal-line.
Jewel scored the all important winner just three minutes from the stipulated time when the national winger headed home following a corner of Cameroonian midfielder Belinga Amabara.
