Mohammedan SC kept their hopes alive to secure the runners-up spot of the Bangladesh Premier League with a 1-0 win over Rahmatganj MFS at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Sheikh Russell KC on the other hand, squandered a great opportunity to seal the second position with a game in hand after playing a goalless draw with Chittagong Abahani at the MA Aziz Stadium in the first match of the day.
Guinean marksman Ismail Bangoura made the difference with his 10th minute strike. With the win,
Mohammedan moved to the third position of the table with 37 points from 19 matches, two points behind second-placed Sheikh Russell KC.
With Sheikh Jamal DC already clinching the back-to-back title, there is a race of runners-up among three teams – Sheikh Russell, Mohammedan and Abahani, the later amassed 34 points from 18 matches.
Russell will face Rahamatganj and Mohammedan face arch-rivals Abahani in their final round games.
