Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Farashganj Sporting Club in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. Meanwhile, Feni Soccer Club tasted their second win of the league after their 2-1 over Chittagong Abanahi in the other match of the day at the same venue. Zahid Hasan Ameli gave Russell the lead in the 12th minute before Cameroonian Paul Emile doubled the margin in the 27th minute.
But Farashganj reduced the margin through Shahinur Rahman seven minute later and Sankar Dus’s 72nd minute strike gave the Old Dhaka outfit an important point.
With the draw, Russell remained fifth in the table with 13 points from seven games — a place behind Abahani Limited, who also have the same points but were in fourth position due to their better goal average.
On the other hand, with their third draw in seven games Farashganj’s have earned only three points.
Zahid Hasan Ameli found his fourth goal in the league in the 12th minute as the national striker brilliantly placed the ball home past Farashganj keeper Sujan Chowdhury following a low free-kick of Jamaican midfielder Akeem Sayeed.
Paul Emile extended the advantage in the 27th minute. Receiving a cross from Mithun Chowdhury, the Cameroonian striker rounded off a defender before placing the ball into the far post from the six-yard box.
Farashganj reduced the margin seven minutes later when Shahinur Rahman headed home a cross from Nigerian team-mate Akinyele Peter from right flank.
Sujan produced a stunning save to deny Ameli’s effort in last minute of three-minute added time of the first half as the Farashganj skipper blocked a short range effort of Ameli after a fine build up play by Zahid and Ameli.
Farashganj leveled the margin in the 72nd minute when Sankar Dus stunned their stronger opponents by sending the ball home past Russell keeper Liton after receiving a squire pass from Akinyele Peter.
Meanwhile, Feni Soccer Club came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Chittagong Abahani.
Mohammad Hanif put Chittagong Abahani ahead in the stroke of half-time as the midfielder chested down a long ball before placing the ball into the far post to find his second successive goal.
Feni’s substitute striker Sohel Mia leveled the margin in the 59th minute when he slotted home past Feni keeper Shohag following a through pass of Sharan Haldar.
Veteran defender Zahirul Islam sealed the victory for the Feni Club in the 79th minute as the defender headed on a Jatta Mustapha’s corner to find the back of the net.
The result means, Feni remained in eighth position of the points table with eight points from seven matches while Chittagong Abahani remained on ninth with four points from the same number of outings.
