Sonadia Island is one of the biodiversity hotspot of Bangladesh. In 1995, the Government of Bangladesh included a provision for the declaration of Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) in the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act. Twelve sites are classified as ECAs and guidelines exist to control further damage to these areas. Sonadia is considered ecologically important by the government and in 1999 was declared as an ECA under Environmental Act of

Ramsar Convention: Our obligation
Dr. M.A. Bashar
It is learnt from newspapers very recently that in the Sundarbans area three large constructions will take place which are very dangerous and detrimental to normal functioning of the mangrove forest ecosystem. It means that the interactions between biotic and abiotic factors will be seriously hampered in the ecosystems conservation. The projects are: construction of coal-based electric plant; depot for storage of coal in Phulbari; and a ship-yard covering large area. Already it is protested by various environment related
First census of birdwings in the forests of Bangladesh

Ecosystem itself is the phenomenon of interaction between biotic and abiotic factors in the nature. Man becomes victim of environmental disasters or environmental degradation at the community level. It is obvious that environmental soundness must be ensured at the micro level. Then it is possible to maintain at the community level. We see scientifically that a single species of the butterfly like the
Birdwings enriching forest ecosystem

Ecosystem itself is the phenomenon of interaction between biotic and abiotic factors in an area. This interaction means both of the factors in an area of the biosphere are equally “interacted” to form and run the system. But apparently plants are the primary phase as producers and successive phases are completed by animals as the consumers. So, plants in the system are treated collectively as the first trophic level and the animals as the successive trophic levels. These animals again provide some backward support to the plants for their multiplication and sustenance to form the final shape

2.5km road project in a Bhola char gets AL lawmaker’s blessings; flouts HC order, environmental law
Within hours after a court judgement that clearly directed the authorities to abide by the forest and environment acts, groups of people have chopped down thousands of trees inside a mangrove forest and a designated wildlife sanctuary to build a road in the remote island of Char Kukrimukri.
The lawmaker of Bhola 4 (Charfashion) Abdullah Al Islam alias Jacob and his local supporters backed chopping down of the mangrove forest for building the 2.5-kilometres long road without any environmental clearance or permission from the forest department as
Forest: The one and only address of inhabitable world
Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman for The Daily Star
Forest ecosystem provides benefits that support the livelihoods of countless human beings. Forests provide a number of components to the broad range of ecological services such as, regulation of rainfall and hydrological system; maintenance of soil quality, control of soil erosion, modulating climate; and being the habitat of biodiversity. Forests form the basis of different industries e.g. timber, wood processing, paper, rubber, paints, resin, gum, honey, food, medicines, building material, fodder, game, tourism, etc. Forests are home to millions of people all around the world and
