Dwayne Smith smashed an unbeaten century to lead Khulna Royal Bengals to a 69-run win over Sylhet Royals in the last round robin match of the Bangladesh Premier League on Monday.
With the semi-final line-up already decided, the match bore little significance as Khulna had secured their berth in the knockout phase before taking the field while Sylhet had been eliminated long ago.
Still Smith made the match memorable for him, hitting 103 from 73 balls with six fours and as many sixes to take Khulna to 186-2 in their 20 overs.
Smith, the only player to get a century in the BPL other than Chris Gayle, added 82 runs with Herschelle Gibbs (41 from 28 balls) for the second wicket and 100 runs for the unbroken third wicket with Sakib al Hasan, who made 21 not out.
Abdur Razzak, Sakib, Shahadat Hossain and Nasir Hossain grabbed two wickets each as Sylhet were all out for 117 runs in 16 overs for their eighth defeat in 10 matches.
Shohail Tanveer scored highest 26 not out for Sylhet. Khulna, who finished second in the first phase with 12 points, will face Dhaka Gladiators in the second semi-final at 6.30pm today.
